Following on from last weeks post getting to know Jack, we sit down with Shaun Price to find out more about our summer intern.

Tell us about yourself?

So I’ve just finished my third year studying MEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering (I always get asked the difference between the two), at Imperial College London. In my spare time, I enjoy cycling, shooting and following Formula 1.

What made you apply for a summer internship at Partner Electronics?

I set out looking for an electrical engineering consultancy internship which could offer me an insight into a range of different fields. As I am looking to streamline my potential career options. A bespoke design firm also appealed to me due to the close-knit teams. You have the chance to develop real relationships with everyone and can also pick up a lot of useful knowledge from senior engineers who have been working in your area of interest for years. Partner Electronics ticked every box for me.

Where do your individual engineering interests lie?

At University I have been choosing modules with a focus on hardware, with power electronics being a particular interest of mine. However, already in the first couple of weeks at Partner, I’ve been able to explore areas which I don’t have much of a background in; I am really enjoying the software side of things at the moment.

What do you hope to get out of the internship?

I hope to delve into areas which I am already interested in, in addition to discovering fields I haven’t had the opportunity to experience in a lot of detail yet. My main aim is to be able to come away with a clearer picture of the fields I want to develop an expertise in and work within, in the future.

What have your first impressions of PEL been?

My first couple of weeks have been super interesting! I’ve already learnt so much about the differences between working in the real world as opposed to doing coursework at Uni. Seeing the need for everything to be tracked and clearly documented every step of the way has been an eye-opener. Aside from that, everyone has been incredibly friendly and helpful. I have also hugely enjoyed the socials hosted by the firm, and getting to know my new colleagues outside of the office.

If you were to win a ridiculously large sum of money in the lottery, what would you do?

I’d straight up start my own Space company which would put Elon Musk and SpaceX to shame.
