Partner Electronics has a proud history in investing in young engineers, with some of our current engineers having joined us as interns and graduate engineers. This trend continues as Partner Electronics has recently welcomed three interns as part of our intern programme. Taku, Kav and James, all join us for a summer internship to develop their skills and apply the theory they have learnt in a practical and real-world setting. This opportunity will allow for our interns to gain valuable experience in a dynamic electronics and firmware design consultancy.
As part of the interns onboarding, I caught up with them to ask a few questions about themselves, their goals and inspiration within engineering.
Taku:
Tell us about yourself:
I have just finished my third year at the University of Southampton, studying for an MEng in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. The course is an integrated masters with a year in industry. Outside of work I am really into fitness, you can either find me in the gym or watching Chelsea play.
What was your first impression of Partner Electronics?
I feel that Partner Electronics puts a lot of confidence into their interns, everyone in the team seems friendly, encouraging and approachable.
What do you want to achieve and learn whilst at Partner Electronics?
I want to take the opportunity of working for a consultancy to see which areas I enjoy, and would want to pursue. I also want to take this time to develop my software abilities.
What are you most interested in doing during your time here?
I am looking forward to working with power electronics and firmware development.
Who would you say is your inspiration within engineering?
It sounds cliché, but it would have to be Elon Musk. He has a strong history of success and understands that patience and hard work is the only way to succeed.
Kav:
Tell us about yourself:
I am an MEng Electronics Engineer student at the University of Nottingham, I have just finished my third year and I am moving into my fourth year. Throughout lockdown I got into photography. I also enjoy badminton, archery and gaming.
What were your first impressions of Partner Electronics?
It seems close knit at Partner, I like that it is easy to go and chat to colleagues to help with any questions I might have.
What do you want to achieve and learn whilst at Partner Electronics?
I have had debugging experience at university, so in this internship I really want to see how a real business works. I want to take the time to Network and get to know the people that work at Partner.
What are you most interested in doing during your time here?
I am really looking forward to helping to develop something useful, with practical applications.
Who would you say is your inspiration within engineering?
It would definitely be my mum and dad! They are both civil engineers, and it is interesting to see how things come together.
James:
Tell us about yourself:
I am studying for an MEng Engineering Science degree at Oxford University. I have just completed my third year. I also completed a fortnight long internship at Partner Electronics last year. Outside of work I do gymnastics, play football and play guitar. I think it was guitar that ignited my interest in electronics after working out how effect pedals work.
What do you want to achieve and learn during this internship?
I am excited to get more practical experience, applying the theory I have learnt throughout university and applying this to projects at Partner. I am also looking to see how a company operates as well as improving my coding skills.
What are you most interested in doing whilst at Partner Electronics?
I am looking forward to designing circuits, seeing how to make a device – from writing software to seeing it work as intended.
Who would you say is your inspiration within engineering?
‘Stuff made here’ – They are a youtuber. I like how they show a product life cycle, from idea to design and then product. They don’t shy away from the challenges that engineers face, which helps to show just how rewarding it is being an engineer to see a fully finished project that works as intended.
What’s next for our interns?
During their internship they will get the chance to work on their own internal projects, getting to see a whole project lifecycle. We will catch up later with the interns to see what they have got out of their time at PEL, and how they have developed. We hope to see lots of great developments during your time here.
